Academic Assessments
Reading . Spelling . Mathematics . Writing . Oral Language .
An academic assessment measures a student’s academic abilities in areas of reading, spelling, writing, mathematics and oral language. They help to identify academic strengths and weaknesses and identify what year/age level they are currently performing at. Academic assessments also help to identify learning difficulties and giftedness.
The results of these comprehensive academic assessments allow for the recommendations to develop a detailed profile of the individual's cognitive strengths and weaknesses, which can inform recommendations for academic accommodations, interventions, or further evaluation if learning disabilities giftedness is identified. Recommendations can then help learning diversity teams at school to design individualised and personalised learning plans and interventions. They also help to support applications for academic provisions at school (e.g., extra time, rest breaks, clarifier etc).
After the assessment is administered a report is provided 2 to 4 weeks later (provided all questionnaires are completed within a week of the assessment by the carers/guardians and teachers. Depending on the results, the report may include recommendations for further assessment by other professionals such as behavioural optometrists, educational audiologists, paediatricians, occupational therapists and speech therapists.
